Who may participate on the team
Any student in grades 6-8 may participate on the team. Swimmers should be able to swim the distance of the pool without stopping. Swim experience is helpful, but not required.
Season
Swim season is from October 1-January 31.
Practice location
Practices will take place at Ooltewah Swim Center (OSC), 6849 Mountain View Road. If you currently swim on a year round team, please let us know. You may continue training with your current team and still compete on the Hunter team.
Practice times
There are different practice options available. Please see attached sheet regarding practice at OSC. Swimmers also have the option of joining the Southeast Tennessee Swim Club. Joining SETS requires a coach’s approval and additional fees. There will be a bus to transport students to the pool on practice days.
Meets
We compete against East Hamilton, Boyd Buchanan, Ooltewah, Silverdale, Notre Dame, Athens, Cleveland, Chattanooga Area Home School, Signal Mountain, and a few Georgia teams. Meets typically take place on week nights and Saturdays.
Swimmers are required to RSVP for each meet and are expected to attend every meet. The current scheduled meets are listed on your schools swimtopia website. Every swimmer parent/guardian is expected to help with volunteering. Please sign up for opportunities that we post.
Registration/Fees
25-26 Registration Fee:
$90 This one time fee includes: 1 team cap and all meet fees
paid to the School Swim team via website registration.
25-26 USA Swimming Fee:
$50 This one time fee includes: required swim insurance, professional coaching, and support and development for swimmers
Paid directly to USA swimming once a link is sent by SETS.
25-26 OSC Practice Fee:
Ranges from $75-$100 This monthly fee includes: weekly practices at OSC- pool rental and coaching services delivered by Head Coach Philipp Davydotchkin. See attached for more detailed information.
Paid to Ooltewah Swim Center/ SETS directly via the card on file on the 1st of each month.
Sports participation forms and physicals must be completed after April 15th and turned into the middle school office before attending any practices or meets. Forms may be found at https://hunter.hcde.org/athletics. Register your swimmer at https://hmssc.swimtopia.com. Registration will open September 16th and should be completed by September 30th.
Communication
Team communication is via the Slack app and the Swimtopia website.
How do I prepare for the swim team?
Swim lessons are available at Ooltewah Swim Center and other pools for those who feel they may need additional stroke or diving instruction. Otherwise, be prepared to come to practice to work hard but also have fun!
Equipment needed
Each team member will need to purchase a suit. There is not a required team suit. Tie back suits for girls are not allowed at meets (they tie in the back like a shoelace) and boys’ suits must be the jammer (fitted) type. Goggles, fins, and a kick board are also needed. Each swimmer is required to wear their school swim cap during the meets. One swim cap per swimmer is provided. Additional caps are available for $10 each. Spirit wear will be through Sports Spectrum. We will let you know more about that just as soon as possible.

SETS Middle & High School Swimming Information
We welcome all public and homeschool school team swimmers to practice with our SETS coaches at Ooltewah Swim Center. We offer three practice options for our school team swimmers. Each school swimmer will be evaluated by the SETS coaches to determine skill level and recommendations for practice groups.
Option 1: School Swim A: These athletes have a minimum requirement of swimming 25 yards freestyle and backstroke unassisted. Practices will be offered Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4 (adults will be at the pool for bus riders who arrive early). These practices will focus on preparing to compete for school events. Limited to Age Group Swimmers ONLY.
Option 2: School Swim B: These athletes have a minimum requirement of swimming 25 yards freestyle and backstroke unassisted. Practices will be offered Tuesday, and Thursday from 3-4 (adults will be at the pool for bus riders who arrive early). These swimmers also have the option of joining their skill based practice group on Fridays and Saturdays. These practices will focus on preparing to compete for school events. Limited to Age Group Swimmers ONLY.
Option 3: SETS Skill Groups: These athletes are all levels of swimmers. They can swim at least 25 yards freestyle and backstroke unassisted. They are interested in competing in both school and year round meets. Their practice time is determined by coach evaluation and corresponding practice group placement. SETS swimmers have the benefit of swimming up to 6 days a week and can choose the dates M-S that they attend practice.
ALL swimmers must be registered as a USA swimmer. This is an additional cost of $50 and paid directly to USA swimming. SETS will send you a link to become a USA swimmer once registration is complete.
- All swimmers must register with SETS and have a current card on file to practice at OSC. Please select Middle/High School at registration. SETS registration fee will be applied to the swimmer’s account in lieu of October’s dues. The following monthly dues will be automatically charged to the card on file for the months of November, December, and January.
School Swim A: $75/month for 2 days/week Tues/Thurs 3-4:00
School Swim B: $100/month for 3 days/week Tues/Thurs 3-4:00 and additional practice Friday and Saturday with your skill group.
SETS Skill Groups: prices vary depending on skill level
School Swim practices will begin September 30.
Equipment Requirements:
Swimmers will need a competitive practice suit, goggles, fins, and kickboard.
